FLORAFLOAT® consists of four natural layers

Flourishing coconut mats meet protective metal and lightweight foam glass gravel: FloraFloat® combines strength, durability and sustainability by only using the highest quality materials to create new habitats and improve water quality.

FloraFloat® provides you with maximum flexibility for planting:

  • Choose pre-vegetated coir mats for immediate effects. The basic structure is a coconut mat, which is planted with wetland plants.  The pre-vegetated mats are installed after the plants have fully established.  They are the perfect solution to quickly establish a stable plant structure on the floating wetland.
  • Choose single plug plants for maximum flexibility in planting and species choice. Planting is easy by pushing the plug plants into the gravel, where you want and as many you want.

Our specially formulated foam glass gravel is made from recycled glass (pure quartz) that is sustainably produced.

Characteristics:

  • Mineral made from 100% glass
  • Strong and durable
  • Does not age
  • Ideal planting media
  • Long-term buoyancy
  • High thermal insulation properties keep water temperatures low
  • High porosity and interstitial spaces create habitat for microbes
  • Resource conserving production

The foam glass gravel is surrounded by a thick and durable organic liner made from coir fibres.

The grid is made of strong steel and gives the floating island its stable form. It holds the module together, does not degrade and withstands even the harshest environmental conditions.

Maximum Flexibility with Single plants

Single plug plants are the classic way to plant FloraFloat®. They provide maximum flexibility in species choice and there are no limitations on planting schemes. The root balls of the single plants are simply pushed into the gravel until they are in contact with the water.

pre-cultivated mats

Pre-cultivated coir mats are the ideal solution to immediately establish a stable plant structure on the floating island. They are rolled out and attached to the island modules. The specific plant composition depends on the desired function of the floating wetland.
